Standard home insurance policies might not be able to cover all properties -
whether due to being an older property, being left unoccupied, or sitting in a
flood risk zone. Most British houses have brick walls, and a tiled roof. This
won't be the case everywhere but is typically considered standard construction
in the UK. However, many older (like Tudor houses) or more modern constructions
(like new-build properties) use different wall or roof material types, so the
house itself could be considered non-standard.
Your property may also be considered as non-standard due to its occupancy. For
example; if the property is left unoccupied for more than 30 days
consecutively, used as a UK holiday home or holiday let, or let out to
long-term tenants. This can also apply to situations like ongoing building work
being carried out at your property.
Personal circumstances, like criminal convictions, bankruptcy or CCJs (County
Court Judgements), can also mean you may need non-standard home insurance
cover.
