Contents Insurance

We can cover lots of things under our Contents Insurance Policy (including those all-important personal items like your bike/bicycle, laptop, phone, jewellery and watch!). You can read more about what can and can’t be covered under the policy here.

You don’t need to itemise all your things to be covered - so we won’t ask for a specific list of your items. You do need to select a cover level high enough to cover all your things, though. You can use our Contents Calculator to help with this.

4. Are your Home Insurance Policies ‘new for old’?

Contents and Buildings & Contents Insurance

In the event of a claim on our Contents or Buildings & Contents policies, when there has been total loss or destruction of any item, this policy replaces most items on a "new-for-old" basis. A deduction for depreciation and wear and tear will be made for items such as mobile phones, bikes, and laptops.

Refurbished phones and laptops are treated as new at the point they were purchased by you, and should be insured at their refurbished value.

You can read more about this in the “How your Claim will be Settled” section in your policy document that you can access through the My Account section of our website. If you don’t have a policy with us you can read more in our Contents sample policy document, and our  Buildings & Contents sample policy document.

Select By Urban Jungle Insurance

In the event of a claim, phones, laptops, bikes and clothes will be replaced based on their depreciated value (10% deduction per year for wear and tear from purchase). All other covered items will be replaced new-for-old.

It’s worth noting that the full replacement value of your contents should not exceed the level of cover you’ve chosen. If your cover level is lower than this value, your claim payout may be reduced.

You can read more about the claims process in your policy document, which you can find by logging into the ‘My Account’ section of our website. If you don’t have a policy with us, please refer to this sample policy document.

5. Can your Home Insurance policies cover refurbished phones and laptops?

Contents, and Buildings & Contents Insurance

Refurbished items can be covered under our standard Buildings & Contents policy, as long as they meet the policy conditions. A refurbished item is treated as new from the date you purchased it.

For example, if an item was originally manufactured in 2016 but you bought it refurbished in 2019, we would consider it new from 2019. Please keep in mind that for certain items, like mobile phones, we will take off an amount for wear and tear and depreciation. For more information on how this is calculated you can check out the “How your claim will be settled” section of your policy document that you can access through the ‘My Account’ section of our website.

If you don’t have a policy with us, you can also find more information in our sample policy document.
